Types of Furnaces We Install
Gas Furnaces
Gas furnaces are the most common home heating systems in Pittsburgh. They work by sending natural gas into a burner assembly, igniting (via pilot light or electronic ignitor), and heats a metal heat exchanger. A blower fan then pushes air across the hot exchanger and through your ductwork. Homes with an existing natural gas line, the majority of homes in Pittsburgh where municipal gas service is already run to the property.
Oil Furnaces
Oil furnaces work by heating oil and pumping it from a storage tank to a burner where it’s atomized into a fine mist and ignited, heating the exchanger similarly to a gas furnace. Oil furnaces work best for rural or older homes without access to a natural gas line, particularly older homes that already have an oil tank and delivery setup in place.
Electric Furnaces
Electric furnace units pull air across a series of electric resistance heating elements (similar to a giant toaster) and pushes it through ductwork by a blower. These heating systems work best for homes without gas access, smaller/moderately-sized homes, or as part of a hybrid system paired with a heat pump.
Propane Furnaces
Mechanically similar to gas furnaces, just running on propane instead of natural gas these are common in rural areas without gas line access. Propane furnaces work best for homes without natural gas access that still want gas-furnace-level heat output (stronger than typical electric options).
